Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Robusta coffee agroforestry by the KTH Kanan Hijau Lestari in Mamasa Regency, Indonesia. The research addresses challenges related to traditional cultivation practices, low coffee productivity (131 kg/ha/year), and limited product diversification. It aims to identify the agroforestry model, analyze factors affecting productivity, and assess opportunities for developing value-added coffee products. A qualitative approach was employed through field observations, in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the farmer group applies a random-mixture agroforestry system, integrating Robusta coffee with companion tree species, predominantly avocado (32%) and cempaka (15%), using planting distances ranging from 1 × 2.5 m to 2.5 × 2.5 m. Productivity is constrained by the intensive use of inorganic fertilizers, non-selective harvesting, inadequate post-harvest handling, and limited processing facilities. Product diversification remains limited due to insufficient technical knowledge, inadequate equipment, and weak market access. However, opportunities exist to develop value-added products, particularly ground coffee and drip bag coffee, through technical training, technology support, and improved processing infrastructure. Strengthening farmers' capacity, promoting sustainable cultivation practices, and expanding market access are essential to improve productivity, increase economic value, and ensure the long-term sustainability of Robusta coffee agroforestry systems.
